Micah Parsons’ dominance along the front seven has the potential to have a trickle-down effect on the rest of the Packers’ defense.
While fellow edge rushers Lukas Van Ness and Rashan Gary stand to benefit from the double-teams Parsons is likely to draw, there is another Packers playmaker who might be able to elevate his game to new heights thanks to all the attention paid to Parsons.
And, it’s safe to say that Parsons is here for linebacker Edgerrin Cooper’s emergence.
“They saw me pick up Coop and they were like, ‘What do you know?'” Parsons said of Cooper, via the team’s official website. “Because I’m watching practice and I’m seeing everything we’ve got dialed in and what we’re putting in, and so I started him.”
Cooper and Parsons have the potential to form quite the disruptive tandem. After all, Parsons has logged 53.5 career sacks, and Cooper enters his second season after receiving All-Pro votes as a rookie thanks to his 87 tackle, 3.5 sack, and one interception efforts in 2024.
“I thought he did a lot of great things,” said Head Coach Matt LaFleur of Cooper. “The entire defense, the urgency at which we played with, I feel like it’s the best I’ve seen from our group since I’ve been here. It was inspiring to me to watch those guys go out and play. And I think when you get like that, it’s contagious.”
