Packers’ Most Important Position Battle Heating Up
Packers' Most Important Position Battle Heating Up 4 Green Bay Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden signs an autograph as he rides a bicycle to practice during the first day of training camp on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Ray Nitschke Field in Ashwaubenon, Wis.Tork Mason/USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin

The Packers have competition across the roster this summer, but few positions are under more scrutiny than at wide receiver.

Already boasting young and ascending players around 26-year-old quarterback Jordan Love, the Packers chose Matthew Golden out of Texas in the first round of April’s NFL Draft before doubling down by adding Savion Williams in Round 3.

Now, as the 2025 NFL season rapidly approaches, Green Bay boasts a logjam at receiver that has sparked trade speculation as training camp continues and fierce competition.

Inside the Packers’ Wide Receiver Battle

Given Green Bay’s depth at receiver, it isn’t just slots on the depth chart and snaps that are up for grabs, but roster spots, as well.

ESPN’s Rob Demovsky says that receiver is the most pivotal position battle playing out at Packers camp this summer.

“Maybe the Packers don’t have a true No. 1 receiver,” Demovsky writes for ESPN . “With Christian Watson out to start the season while still recovering from right ACL surgery — but there’s still a pecking order to be determined. Green Bay’s 2025 first-round pick Matthew Golden might have thrust himself near the top of that list right away.

“Those who think it’s hard for a rookie receiver to make an immediate impact should watch how smoothly Golden has fit in so far in camp. That said, the likes of Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs and even tight end  Tucker Kraft can also vie for quarterback  Jordan Love’s attention.”

There is eventually going to be at least one odd-man-out in the Packers’ crowded receivers room, and with several teams in the market for help at the position, Green Bay is likely a popular potential trade partner across the NFL.

GIven Kraft and even fellow tight end Luke Musgrave’s potential role in the passing game, snaps and targets could be harder to come by for Packers wide receivers, but whoever emerges from this position battle could be set up to have a prolific season ahead.
