The Green Bay Packers checked a lot of items in their 2025 NFL season debut last Sunday against the Detroit Lions at home. Apart from getting to a 1-0 record right away, they also paraded shiny new defensive weapon Micah Parsons on the field. Their offense also had great moments opposite the Lions’ defense, particularly through the air.
Quarterback Jordan Love went 16-of-22 for 188 passing yards and two touchdowns. He was neither intercepted nor sacked.
Green Bay’s passing offense didn’t really put up great numbers, but it got the job done, in part because of a seemingly deep weaponry downfield. In fact, five Green Bay players got at least two targets and three with at least four.
No Packer had more than five targets. Romeo Doubs led the Packers with 68 receiving yards on two receptions and four targets, while Reed got the most looks with five targets, turning them into three catches and 45 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Green Bay offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich knows that part of his job is to find ways for Love to spread the targets. It is a challenge, especially with the kind of talent Green Bay has downfield, and that’s not even factoring in Christian Watson, who is still inactive.
The good news for Stenavich is that he doesn’t believe that target share is a concern among the players.
Packers OC Adam Stenavich on keeping everybody happy in an offense where 10 targets can catch a pass: “I don’t think that really bothers these guys. They all want to feel involved in the game plan, and we try to spread it around for sure.”
In any case, it will be interesting to see how the passing game shapes up for the Packers in Week 2, when they take on the Washington Commanders at home this Thursday.
