The Green Bay Packers’ battle for the starting left tackle job has been among the most hotly contested across the roster during training camp this summer.

Few positions are more important than protecting quarterback Jordan Love’s blindside, especially for a team hoping to leap into the Super Bowl conversation in the NFC, and Jordan Morgan and Rasheed Walker have been battling it out under the Wisconsin sun throughout training camp for the starting job.

Packers’ Rasheed Walker, Jordan Morgan Battle Heating Up

Over at bleacher Report, NFL analyst Moe Moton put together a list of each team’s most competitive position battle, including an update on where things stand between Morgan and Walker.

“Over the last two years,” Moton writes for B/R. “Walker has been a solid pass-blocking tackle. According to Pro Football Focus, he only allowed three sacks while on the field for 562 pass-blocking snaps last season. Yet the Packers have taken a peek at what Morgan can do at left tackle while Walker deals with a groin injury.

“Walker has done enough to retain his starting job unless Morgan looks like the next coming of David Bakhtiari in Green Bay. The latter has a few weeks to impress the staff, though he may have a stronger path to a starting role at right guard.”

Packers 'All-Breakout Team' Selection Could Be Missing Piece to Playoff Run 1 Green Bay Packers offensive tackle Jordan Morgan (77) blocks Detroit Lions defensive tackle Alim McNeill (54) during the third quarter of their game Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Detroit Lions beat the Green Bay Packers 24-14.

The Packers chose Morgan No. 25 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, and while the fact that he might not be able to get on the field in his second NFL season could be disconcerting but it falls on head coach Matt LaFleur to field the best offensive line in front of Love, and that may mean playing Walker.

Last season, Walker posted an elite 79.6 pass-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus while allowing only 35 pressures. If Walker finishes training camp and the preseason playing at a dominant level he might hold off the former first-round draft choice for another season.
