Packers Plan To Stick With Josh Jacobs

Days after the NFL reinstated Josh Jacobs from the commissioner’s exempt list, new allegations against the Packers running back surfaced. The NFL is reviewing these new accusations against the embattled back, but Green Bay will not make an internal move here.

Head coach Matt LaFleur said Monday (via ESPN.com’s Rob Demovsky) the Packers are sticking with Jacobs moving forward, indicating the club will “let everything play out.” NFL generally proceed this way, and the Pack – which activated Jacobs ahead of Week 7 – look set to keep utilizing their starter amid these negative headlines.

“We’re going to allow the NFL to do its process, but I would anticipate him being a member of us moving forward,” LaFleur added. “That’s really all I have to speak on.”

Jacobs’ attorneys have characterized the additional allegations, which all took place in 2021 and 2022, as “unsupported and stale.” They only came to light via a Freedom of Information Act request submitted to the Hobart-Lawrence police department, per Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. The league was not previously aware, Breer adds, and the Packers “weren’t apprised of all of it either.”

But until and unless the NFL takes action – either returning Jacobs to the commissioner’s exempt list or issuing a suspension longer than the six games he already missed – the Packers will continue to play the 28-year-old running back. Jacobs’ return to the field has not aided his squad’s run game; he has collected just 75 yards on 32 carries (2.3 yards per carry) with one touchdown, though he has caught 11 of his 13 targets for 68 yards and two additional scores. His 28 total touches in Week 8 were a significant step up from his season debut the week prior, indicating he has fully retaken his bell cow role in Green Bay.
