The Green Bay Packers’ wide receiver room has been one of the deepest and youngest in football, and it only became more crowded and more explosive with the arrival of first-round rookie Matthew Golden.
Golden has been building a strong rapport with quarterback Jordan Love, but so far this season, arguably Love’s most reliable target has been Romeo Doubs.
Through the season’s first four games, Doubs has caught 13 passes for 179 yards and four touchdowns–including a three-touchdown breakout in a 40-40 tie with the Dallas Cowboys.
Doubs, 25, could be on the verge of cashing in.
The Packers already signed wide receiver Christian Watson to a long-term contract earlier this season, and Doubs might be about to follow in his footsteps.
According to ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano, Doubs and the Packers have mutual interest in an extension.
“Doubs is interesting because the Packers are overloaded at wide receiver,” Graziano wrote this week. “They definitely had trade talks about Doubs this offseason, but he’s also a reliable favorite of quarterback Jordan Love. Green Bay is going to have to make some choices there in the coming year or two.”
Doubs has continued to build chemistry with Love, particularly in the red zone, where his size and route precision have made him a go-to option.
Extending Doubs, alongside Watson, Jayden Reed, and Golden could form the foundation of what the Packers’ receiving corps will look like for years to come, and ease some long-term decisions about whether to keep the likes of Dontayvion Wicks and Savion Williams around for the long-term future.
