Packers president Mark Murphy reveals timeline for Aaron Rodgers' decision
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Every Green Bay Packers fan has been waiting on any kind of official news on Aaron Rodgers. This week has seen a flurry of rumors and stories about Rodgers’ future with the team. Many expect him to be traded to the Jets but until anything is official, we truly do not know. Packers president Mark Murphy has revealed a timeline for when a decision should be reached.

Packers president Mark Murphy on Aaron Rodgers

Leave it to Murphy to pick the most random place to drop this nugget of information. While on the telecast of the Girls State Basketball Tournament, he confirmed that the team will honor any trade request. He confirmed that the team did in fact give permission to the Jets to speak with Rodgers. This wasn’t really a shock as the Jets would be facing massive tampering violations if they did not receive permission. What was shocking was the timeline. Murphy expects a resolution by the start of free agency. That starts next week so Murphy says to expect a resolution soon.

Could Rodgers return to the Packers?

Murphy was asked whether there was a scenario in which Rodgers was back with the Packers as their starting QB. Here was Murphy’s answer.

“Yeah, I mean unless, if things don’t work out the way we want them, yeah, we would. He is obviously a great player.”

This is a little bit of a strange answer. He is trying not to be completely rude but the line “unless things don’t work out the way we want” makes it seem like the Packers are ready to move on and have moved on in their minds. Murphy is simply trying to be respectful to the player that has brought so much to the franchise.

All of Packers nation will continue to frantically check their social media feeds for the time being. The good news is that this should not spill over into free agency. For now, we all simply wait for any official news.
