Packers Provide Concerning Micah Parsons Update Before Franchise Debut

The Green Bay Packers made one of the biggest splashes of the NFL offseason when they traded for Micah Parsons last week. With the relationship between Parsons and Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones souring through contract extension talks, the Packers jumped at the opportunity.

After trading a pair of first-round picks and a Pro Bowl defensive tackle in exchange for the edge rusher, the Packers made Parsons the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

Packers fans were excited to see Parsons for the first time in the green and gold on Sunday, but Green Bay provided a concerning update on the four-time Pro Bowler.

The Packers have listed Parsons as questionable for their season opener against the Detroit Lions due to a back injury, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

This decision comes one day after news broke that Parsons is dealing with an L4/L5 facet joint sprain in his back. It was also reported on Thursday that he may need an epidural injection to play against the Lions.

Parsons was traded from the Cowboys for two first-round picks (2026 and 2027) and defensive tackle Kenny Clark. After the trade, Parsons signed a four-year, $188 million contract extension with the Packers.

After the Cowboys selected Parsons 12th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, he did nothing but succeed for Dallas. In four seasons, he totaled 256 tackles, 63 tackles for loss and 52.5 sacks. He won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award in 2021, was a First Team All-Pro in 2021 and 2022 and made the Pro Bowl in all four years.

Parsons has missed just four games in his career thus far, all coming last season due to a high ankle sprain. After not playing in any preseason games this year, it will be interesting to see if Parsons can lace up his cleats on Sunday.

The Packers host the Lions at 4:25 p.m. ET on CBS.
