Packers QB Aaron Rodgers gives update on rib injury
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Aaron Rodgers is one tough guy. New details came out about his thumb injury and it is a wonder he is playing through it. Midway through the third quarter, Rodgers was in visible pain. After the series, he was immediately taken to the locker room. Many assumed that his thumb had been aggravated in some way. However, it seemed he sustained a new injury during the game. In his postgame press conference, Aaron Rodgers revealed a new injury he suffered.

Aaron Rodgers Reveals New Injury

Apparently, it was not a thumb issue but a rib injury that forced Rodgers back to the locker room. He went back to the locker room for some X-rays and the full extent of the injury is still unclear. Rodgers said it was, “hard to tell on the X-ray whether he had broken ribs.” He did say that they ruled out punctured lung which is a good thing. He went out because he was having a hard time breathing and rotating his upper body. While Rodgers did say his thumb is feeling better, this rib issue is not the news that Packers fans wanted to hear.

Should He Be Playing?

Matt LaFleur said that if Rodgers is ready to go, he will be the starter. I can’t help but ask, why? The Packers sit at 4-8. While it is mathematically possible for them to still make the playoffs, it is a slim chance. If Aaron Rodgers is your future in the short term, the team should not risk further injury by throwing him out there. If he is not your future, then they absolutely should be starting Jordan Love to see what he has got. There is no questioning the toughness of Aaron Rodgers, but sometimes you have to make the tough decision to sit a player for the good of himself and the team.

This will be yet another thing to monitor during the week. Between David Bakhtiari, Rodgers, and the rest of the team, there are a lot of injuries to track. The team will likely get more details early this week on the true nature of the injury.
