Packers’ Quay Walker shares ‘bittersweet’ reaction to player’s sudden Green Bay departure

During his first three seasons in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers, linebacker Quay Walker had always had Kenny Clark as a teammate. Walker now finds himself trying to adjust to Green Bay’s Clark-less defensive line, with the veteran defensive tackle traded to the Dallas Cowboys along with a couple of first-round picks in exchange for superstar Micah Parsons.

Losing Clark has undeniably impacted Green Bay and its fans emotionally, having seen him suit up for the team through nine seasons. But at the same time, Parsons is a can’t-miss asset any team would have likely willingly let go of their feelings to get.

Walker sounds off on Clark’s Packers departure

“That’s kind of bittersweet, right? Kenny’s been a vet,” Walker said, per Green Bay’s official website.

“He’s been one of the best players in the NFL at his position for a long time, and I still think that he is. I don’t think he had as down a year as everybody’s making it out to be last year. That’s my opinion. That’s said and done. But what Kenny did and the buy in and the type of pro he was and the way he helped me get this whole group to kind of buy into what we’re doing and go forward, I’m forever grateful to Kenny. You can’t ask for a better situation to walk into than I did with a veteran like Kenny Clark.”

Although Clark is no longer with Green Bay, Walker has nothing but respect for his former teammate.

“I absolutely love the guy. He is what you dream up every pro to be, from the meeting room to how he practices to how he takes coaching. I mean, the guy’s just, the guy’s incredible. That is not going to be replaced. That’s Kenny, that’s who he is, that’s rare.”

Clark has already made his debut for the Cowboys on Thursday, while Walker and company are scheduled to open their season this Sunday at Lambeau Field against the Detroit Lions.
