Packers Receive New Update on Potential Josh Sweat Trade

As the NFL trade deadline draws nearer, the Green Bay Packers have emerged as a speculative destination for Arizona Cardinals edge rusher Josh Sweat.

The idea, most recently floated by SB Nation analyst Jarrett Bailey, centers on reuniting the veteran with defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon while giving the Packers a complementary piece alongside Micah Parsons once the star recovers from the torn ACL he suffered last December.

It's hardly the first time we've heard Sweat linked to Green Bay.

Sweat, a Super Bowl champion with the Philadelphia Eagles, signed a four-year, $76.4 million deal with Arizona in March 2025 that included substantial guarantees.

His prior ties to Gannon run deep: the coordinator coached him in Philadelphia, where Sweat posted a Pro Bowl season in 2021 and double-digit sacks the following year, and again in Arizona, where the pass rusher delivered a career-high 12 sacks in 2025.

Bailey framed the potential pairing with Parsons as a natural fit that could create significant pressure off the edge once both are healthy and available.

Green Bay’s defense has absorbed multiple setbacks this season.

Linebacker Edgerrin Cooper and defensive tackle Javon Hargrave are out for the year with Achilles injuries, Parsons has yet to return to practice following his knee surgery, and linebacker Zaire Franklin is sidelined for the upcoming game against the Detroit Lions with a shin issue.

In that context, adding a proven edge presence who already understands Gannon’s scheme offers a logical short-term bridge and longer-term complement. Sweat’s production has dipped to two sacks through six games this season, but he recently flashed his form with a sack and multiple pressures in a narrow win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Any deal would face clear obstacles. Arizona general manager Monti Ossenfort publicly stated in August that the Cardinals had no interest in trading Sweat, and the contract carries sizable cap charges in the later years.

Still, with Arizona struggling and the November 10 deadline approaching, the speculation has not fully subsided.

For a Packers team sitting at 4-2 and positioning itself for a playoff push, the prospect of pairing a Gannon-familiar pass rusher with Parsons remains an intriguing, if complicated, possibility worth monitoring as the deadline nears.

We'll see if Green Bay attempts to make a move for Sweat.
