There’s no love lost between the Chicago Bears and bitter NFC North rival Green Bay Packers.

After squaring off three times this season, including two physical Bears fourth-quarter comebacks, one of which a win over Green Bay to advance to the NFC Divisional round, Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs revealed that the rivalry got ratcheted up several notches.

Packers WR Romeo Doubs sounds off on rivalry with Chicago Bears

The second regular-season meeting between the Bears and Packers was particularly chippy, with D.J. Moore absorbing what Chicago believed to be a cheap shot early in the game, and Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love suffering a concussion on a clear helmet-to-helmet hit.

It didn’t sit well with Doubs, or his teammates.

“When they took Jordan out of the game,” Doubs said, during a recent appearance on Kay Adams’ Up and Adams show, was the moment he realized the Bears’ rivalry had intensified. “Because everybody in the world knows it was a dirty hit.

“Shout out to Chicago, again. They’re a great football team. But, everyone in the world saw it, you saw it, I saw it. The energy on both ends … Them chanting ‘Green Bay Sucks’ before playing the Rams, it just is a lot.”

These are two heritage franchises, playing in the longest-standing rivalry, having met each season dating back to 1921, and the hatred between the fanbases, the teams, and even the head coaches is palpable. Look no further than Ben Johnson and Matt LaFleur’s icy handshakes this season, as evidence for how deep the resentment runs between these coaches and teams.

“The rivalry is very deep there,” Doubs explained. “From the fanbase, to the players, and it’s just so much more to it. I don’t even know really how to break it down. It’s definitely real.”
