Packers Season Now At Risk With Upcoming Divisional Games
Jeff Hanisch-Imagn Images

The Green Bay Packers’ season began with plenty of high hopes, especially after the trade for Micah Parsons. But with lackluster offensive performances and the losses that have followed in recent weeks, the season suddenly feels in doubt — particularly with the Packers staring down the barrel of back-to-back-to-back divisional matchups.

At noon today, Green Bay kicks off against the struggling New York Giants. The Packers are 7.5-point favorites, but that guarantee means nothing if the offense doesn’t hold up its end of the bargain. The defense has been playing at a Super Bowl-caliber level, yet the offense simply hasn’t matched it.

The offensive struggles have gotten so bad that many in both traditional and social media have begun questioning the long-term future of Matt LaFleur in Green Bay. Normally, I’d dismiss that kind of talk immediately — but if the Packers fall to the Giants because the offense stalls yet again, I could see myself joining the chorus wondering whether LaFleur should be on the metaphorical hot seat.

Especially considering what lies ahead.

The Packers Might Take It One Game At A Time But…

It’s important to understand exactly where this team sits in the schedule. The second half of Green Bay’s season is loaded with divisional matchups against the Lions, Vikings, and Bears — and this is not the same NFC North Aaron Rodgers dominated year after year.

Chicago Bears

The Bears, led by head coach Ben Johnson, sit in second place at 6–3 — their best start in several years. My biggest critique is that they don’t have many quality wins, but that doesn’t change the fact that the Packers play them twice in a three-week span in December. If Green Bay doesn’t fix its offense, those games could get ugly.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings may be just 4–5, but they’re still a tough out. Outside of two losses, every defeat has come by one possession, and they already have an upset win over Detroit. Even if Minnesota ends up out of the division race, they would love to play spoiler.

Detroit Lions

If the Packers want any chance of a deep playoff run, winning the division is the cleanest — and maybe only — path. With how stacked the NFC is this year, Green Bay might not even reach the postseason without a division title. And the road to the North currently runs through the 6–3 Lions.

Yes, the Packers already beat Detroit in Week 1, but that feels like a lifetime ago. A lot has changed. To retake control of the division, Green Bay will need to beat Detroit again — this time on Thanksgiving.

Green Bay Packers

And that brings us back to the Packers themselves. At 5-3-1, they sit in third place in the NFC North — not terrible, but far from safe.

That’s why the next four games are arguably the most important stretch of the entire season. Win all four, and Green Bay moves to 9-3-1 with victories over every divisional opponent, all but guaranteeing first place. Lose even two, and their hopes of winning the division could evaporate.

If they want to accomplish that, the offense must get fixed — starting tomorrow against the Giants.

Packers at Giants Prediction

I’m choosing to stay positive here. Yes, the Packers have a ton of injuries. And, the offensive line is questionable at best. And yes, the inconsistencies keep rearing their ugly heads. But I believe the Packers, Matt LaFleur, and Jordan Love will figure out their offensive woes and get back on track in this game.

Just you watch.

Packers win 34–14.

ChatGPT’s Prediction:

Packers 27 — Giants 14
The Giants are too banged up and unstable at quarterback to sustain drives, while the Packers’ defense should be able to pressure Jameis Winston into mistakes. Even with Green Bay’s own injuries, they simply have more stability and playmakers, giving them the edge in a controlled 27–14 win.

Even through all the ups and downs,
