Packers’ Sleeper Emerging at Linebacker

The Packers boast a veteran and ascending linebacking corps, headlined by Edgerrin Cooper, looking to build on a bombastic rookie season, but it may be another young rising star who could carve out a role for himself this season.

Ty’Ron Hopper has been consistently making plays around the football throughout training camp, according to Packers insider Mike Spofford.

“As I mentioned on “Unscripted” last week,” Spofford writes for the team’s official website. “To borrow a term from an old friend, he’s what you call a “thumper” at linebacker. He has a physical presence. It sounds like he added about 10 pounds to an already stout frame. He’s a developing player to watch.”

Ty’Ron Hopper Has High Hopes for Packers’ Season

The Packers have high hopes for Cooper, that Quay Walker develops into a force, and in Isiah McDuffie’s upside.

Appearing in all 17 games last season for the Packers, Hopper posted just nine total tackles.

But, at age 24, the situation and timing could be right for Hopper to break through.

“It feel like I can do everything to be honest,” Hopper recently told Go Long Media. “I feel like I can cover. Man. Zone. Whatever it is.

“Always by the ball. Always finishing by the ball. Making plays. I’m excited for this year.”

Defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley and the Packers should be about Hopper, too.
