Micah Parsons’ torn ACL clouds the Packers‘ Super Bowl chances this season, but the All-Pro edge rusher is a major piece of Green Bay’s future.
As the offseason nears, there is a chance that Green Bay will lock up one of defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley’s most dominant and vital playmakers to a long-term extension, to secure his future, as well.
Over at ESPN, Packers reporter Rob Demovsky was asked to identify who Green Bay is most likely to next sign to a long-term contract extension, with linebacker Quay Walker getting the nod.
“This is a maybe because there aren’t many must-sign players in the Packers’ 2026 free agent group,” Demovsky explains. “The Packers declined his fifth-year option, which would have paid him roughly $14.75 million next season. However, the former first-round pick has improved in the past two years under defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley to where the Packers might bring him back.”
Walker is in the midst of one of the more prolifically productive seasons of his career, posting 55 tackles with 1.5 sacks, and it would make sense for Green Bay to bring the 25-year-old back on a long-term contract that would spread the cap hit out across multiple years rather than committing a $14.75 fifth-year option against the cap next season.
After spending big to acquire Parsons this summer, one year removed from one of the flashier free agency periods in franchise history that added the likes of All-Pro safety Xavier McKinney and running back Josh Jacobs, the offseason ahead may be a ti more true to form for GM Brian Gutekunst and Co. But, keeping Walker in a Packers uniform for the foreseeable future may be a top priority.
