In a game that saw the return of a former Cowboys star to Dallas, two explosive offenses trade big plays all night, and yet another classic between two storied NFL franchises, neither the Packers nor the Cowboys walk away with the win on Sunday Night Football. In what ultimately became the second highest scoring tie in NFL history, both team’s offenses came to play on Sunday much to football fans delights.

Love and Prescott Duel in Primetime

In a game that ended in a 40-40 tie, both Quarterbacks let it fly throughout the game, with neither QB definitively outdueling the other. Cowboys QB Dak Prescott bounced back in a big way after a dreadful showing against the Chicago Bears last week. Dallas’s $240 million dollar man threw for over 319 yards and 4 total touchdowns in a valiant effort to get Dallas back to .500 on the season. Meanwhile, Packers QB Jordan Love matched Prescott on the other end, throwing for 327 yards and 3 touchdowns to keep the game tied.

No CeeDee Lamb? No Problem!

After Lamb went down with a high ankle sprain in the Cowboys loss last week, the Cowboys offense was expected to take a bit of step back against a much more stout Green Bay defense on Sunday. Luckily for the Cowboys, their acquisition of former Steelers receiver George Pickens continues to be a tremendous pickup for them. The former Georgia standout hauled in 8 catches for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns while making one spectacular catch after another in the Cowboys tie.

Packers Ground Game Gets Going

Coming into the game, Packer’s star running back Josh Jacobs had gotten off to a slow start on the year until tonight. The three-time Pro-Bowler finished with 86 yards rushing along with two touchdowns as the Packers were able to find their rhythm on the ground throughout the game.  Green Bay as a team was able to collect 164 rushing yards total, as back-up running back Emanuel Wilson got in on the rushing action with 44 yards as well.

Cowboys Defense Continues to Struggle

While the Cowboys were able to get their mojo back on the offensive side of the ball, the defense showed to be the team’s kryptonite once again. After Dallas was able to hold a potent Eagles offense to just 24 points in their first game of the season, the Cowboys have given up 30 plus points in three straight games now. The mounting injuries mixed with the overall poor showing from the Cowboys defense is certainly a huge concern moving forward this season for Dallas.

Micah Parson Struggles in Return to Dallas

The biggest storyline heading into Sunday’s match-up was the return to Dallas for Packers star Micah Parsons, who spent his first four years terrorizing offensive lines while in a Cowboys uniform. The offensive line of Dallas showed that they weren’t afraid of their former teammate Sunday night, as Parsons was limited to only 1 sack and 5 total tackles on the night. That stout showing by Dallas’s offensive line showed exactly how much better the Cowboys have gotten in that unit compared to last season.

Final Thoughts

It’s hard to gauge which team looked impressive and which didn’t when the game ends in a tie. Both Dallas and Green Bay showed enough for either team to win, but sometimes two teams are too evenly matched even for the football gods to decide who should win. While a tie won’t set back either team in the standings, both sides will certainly view this game as a missed opportunity. As for football fans across America, a tie is fairly palpable when it comes in that exciting of fashion.
