Packers Will Start With Heavy Lean On Love

There’s a bit of uncertainty in several areas that will shift the focus to the passing threat for the Packers. The running back room will be going trial by committee according to Offensive Coordinator, Adam Stenavich. The offensive line may have lingering injuries, and there’s also a brand new defensive scheme that’s without it’s star pass rusher just to make it extra fun.

The weight of having early success will fall on Jordan Love’s arm. Here’s why the Packers will lean heavily on Jordan Love to start out the season.

The Packer’s Unknowns

While hopes are high for new Defensive Coordinator Jonathan Gannon to hit the ground running, there’s still a looming question of how they are going to create pressure without Micah Parsons.The interior line I think looks pretty solid. Returning Defensive Lineman Devonte Wyatt is going to be a problem alongside veteran Javon Hargrave who will be going up against his former team this Sunday.

I also believe the Linebacker duo of Zaire Franklin and Edgerrin Cooper will end up making their case for the best tandem in the league this year.

The questions are out on the edge.

Barryn Sorrell looks to be getting the start in the rotation opposite Lukas Van Ness. We’ll of course see the official lineup on Sunday, however the inital depth chart released by the Packers has Sorrell getting the starting snaps. I would still expect to see heavy rotation as well with Dani Dennis-Sutton and Brenton Cox Jr.

The secondary still has a battle, but it’s to establish who starts opposite of (in my opinion) Packer’s new CB1 Brandon Cisse. I was ecstatic when Cisse got drafted after taking him in my mock drafts earlier this year. He has certainly not disappointed and looks the part. That being said, he is still a rookie and will have growing pains as he adapts to the speed and physicality of the NFL.

With the uncertainty of the Packers defense it’s going to be important for the offense to sustain drives. Jordan Love has looked just as poised as ever so far during Preseason this year. He even did the play calling during the second half of the final Preseason game against the Cardinals, showing his understanding and command of the offense.

I have full confidence the defense will find it’s identity quickly, but it’s not something you can bank on just yet until they show it on the field consistently.

Wide Receiver Room Trimmed And Locked In

While Jordan still has a heavy arsenal of weapons at his disposal, this wide receiver trio looks poised for a breakout season.

Christian Watson and Matthew Golden have the potential to be one of the best outside receiving tandem in the league. They have looked like a highlight reel all the way through the offseason programs this year. Jayden Reed is locked into the slot and can disrupt the middle of the field. I expect to see him make a lot of plays and generate some healthy yards after catch.

The Number Of Mouths To Feed Has Dropped

With the departures of Tay Wicks and Romeo Doubs, the trio of Watson, Golden, and Reed (sounds like a law firm) have gotten the chance to build a tighter bond with QB Jordan Love. The four players worked out together all through the summer and Jordan has said how much more dialed in his timing of the routes and understanding his receivers has become.

I am also excited to see how they incorporate Skyy Moore, Savion Williams, and even J. Michael Sturdivant. There’s also Bo Melton still coming in clutch in the rotation. That being said, the starting trio is pretty well cemented, and should lend to Jordan letting it rip.

Don’t Forget Your Tucker Kraft YAC & Cheese

Tucker Kraft looks to make a comeback statement this Sunday, and I would get ready for some highlights. Jordan Love gets his favorite target back, giving continuity and a threat that the Vikings will need to game plan for.

Kraft looks to be feeling 100% and certainly sounds like he’s ready to get back on the field.

Final Thoughts/Prediction For Week 1

The Packers will open the 2026 season at US Bank Stadium this Sunday. The time for speculation is over, and it’s time to see what this team is bringing to the table this year. It’s always important to try and balance the excitement with the reality of a brand new squad going out to see how well they can execute against another team.

That being said, I have high hopes, and it’s absolutely largely to do with having QB Jordan Love at the helm.

We’ll all get to see if Kyler can hold his own enough to get the ball in the hands of Jefferson, Addison, and Hockenson. There’s also the heavy and mixed pressure packages Viking’s Defensive Coordinator, Brian Flores is sure to dial up.

However, if Jordan can keep his notoriously calm demeanor and stay focussed, I can see him spreading the ball around enough to keep the Vikings secondary on their toes, regardless of whether Marshawn Lloyd and the running back room can step up or not.

I believe the tone will be set early that Jordan Love is here to throw dimes and win trophies in 2026. I think the Packers take home the victory 28-17.
