Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden has kept his draft-day promise to his grandmother.
Before the Packers selected him with pick No. 23 in the 2025 NFL Draft, Golden said his first purchase would be a house for his grandmother, Penny Blackshear. After signing a four-year, $17.57M contract, he has done that.
On Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter shared a mini-documentary from realtor company RE/MAX that showed Golden's home-buying process. When he revealed the house to his grandmother, it brought tears to her eyes.

"Grandma's love is just different," Golden said. "She put in as much work as I did and she sacrificed a lot to put me in this position, so it's all I can do is give back to her."
Golden experienced housing insecurity growing up in Houston. His mother, Alicia Blackshear, told Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette the family lost its home in 2017.
Golden wanted to buy that home back. However, his broker, Nimesh Patel, informed him that the house was in disrepair. He purchased another home in a neighborhood where the WR spent time during high school instead.
Patel gave Penny Blackshear an illustration of the old house to hang on her wall. (The realtor also donated all his commission to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, per RE/MAX.)
"I can't describe the feeling — it might be a little better than getting drafted," Golden said. "It's a big milestone for me. Something my mom and grandma always taught me was to give back to people."
Golden is continuing to heed that lesson with the heartwarming purchase for his family.
