Pat McAfee joined "College GameDay" in 2022, partnering with Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, Nick Saban and Lee Corso at the desk.
In a recent interview on On3's "Andy and Ari" podcast, Herbstreit revealed that he was close to leaving the show after he joined Al Michaels on "Thursday Night Football" as a part of Amazon's deal in 2022.
"I thought when I took the Amazon deal three years ago that I would probably have to give something up because it's so hard to do all three of these things," Herbstreit said. "And then not knowing that Pat [McAfee] would become a regular and, obviously, Coach Saban would retire—I had no idea. But now, you couldn't kick me off the set. I absolutely love it. I hope it lasts a long time. I couldn't imagine not being on 'GameDay.'"
Herbstreit shared that he had a change of heart when McAfee and Saban joined the show and could not imagine not being a part of "College GameDay."
After the revelation, McAfee sent Herbstreit some warm wishes on X.
