Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs got exactly the kind of payoff they were chasing all offseason, and it arrived at the perfect time. A dominant performance from new addition Kenneth Walker III carried the Chiefs to a 30-27 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, pushing Kansas City to 4-0 through the opening month of the 2026 NFL season.

Sunday’s game at Allegiant Stadium marked the first meeting this season between two AFC West teams that had each opened 3-0, and for most of the afternoon, it looked like the Raiders’ showcase.

Las Vegas carried a 13-10 lead into a scoreless third quarter before Walker, the reigning Super Bowl MVP who joined Kansas City from Seattle in March, broke off a 76-yard run that flipped the entire tone of the game.

That burst set up Tyquan Thornton’s second touchdown catch of the day, and the Raiders answered right back behind two Matt Gay field goals to retake a 20-17 edge. From there, the finish turned into exactly the kind of dogfight both 3-0 teams expected from each other.

Mahomes connected with Thornton again for 55 yards before the receiver left the game with an ankle injury, and Walker powered in for his first touchdown with 3:21 left to put Kansas City back on top.

A fumbled Raiders kickoff return handed the Chiefs another chance, and Walker needed just 22 yards to find the end zone a second time. Brock Bowers answered to cut the gap to three, but Xavier Nwankpa iced it with an interception of Kirk Cousins.

Walker closed the day with 177 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries, while Mahomes threw for 225 yards and two scores, improving to 6-0 all-time against the Raiders in Las Vegas. The finish wasn’t the only thing that made headlines.

CBS reported 28.448 million viewers for the broadcast, a 20% jump from a year ago and the largest audience for any Week 4 game on any network, making it the NFL’s most-watched game of the season and helping CBS post its best October doubleheader audience ever at 21.989 million viewers.

Kansas City will use its bye week to regroup before returning October 18 against the Los Angeles Chargers, with kickoff at Arrowhead Stadium set for 4:25 p.m. ET.
