The Kansas City Chiefs earned a strong 30-17 win over the Detroit Lions on Monday night, continuing their midseason turnaround after a sluggish start. Patrick Mahomes led the way with 257 passing yards and three touchdowns, connecting twice with Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and once with second-year wide receiver Xavier Worthy.
Kansas City’s defense settled in after halftime, holding the Lions to just seven second-half points as the Chiefs improved to 3-3 . Having now won three of their last four games, the Super Bowl contenders are beginning to look like their old selves again and are putting the NFL world on notice.
Despite the victory, ESPN’s latest NFL Power Rankings dropped the Chiefs one spot to No. 7, hinting that not everyone is fully convinced by their resurgence. However, in his analysis, ESPN’s Nate Taylor highlighted how Kansas City’s rebuilt offensive line has been one of the bright spots of the year:
“Much of the Chiefs’ offseason was about general manager Brett Veach and coach Andy Reid fixing the offensive line, especially at left tackle,” Taylor wrote. “The Chiefs signed Jaylon Moore in free agency and selected rookie Josh Simmons in the draft. They also moved Kingsley Suamataia to left guard to replace Joe Thuney, who was traded to the Bears. Each player in the trio has performed well, making the offensive line a strength once again for quarterback Patrick Mahomes.”

The Chiefs trail six teams in the latest rankings — the Tampa Buccaneers, Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts, Philadelphia Eagles, and Green Bay Packers — all of whom displayed greater early-season success. Kansas City’s offensive rhythm has improved, but it remains to be seen if the team can sustain its current form.
As the Chiefs prepare for the Raiders, the Chiefs expect wide receiver Rashee Rice to return after missing six games through suspension, providing Mahomes with another key target. A win would not only move Kansas City above .500 but also reinforce that their championship form is returning at the right time.
