Heading into Super Bowl 59 Sunday in New Orleans, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ family was in the news.
Fans were praying for the 29-year-old signal-caller’s grandfather, who was moved to hospice care just right before the AFC Championship Game two weeks ago. Mahomes’ mom Randi has been posting for weeks about her father’s declining health, though she’s never confirmed what he’s actually ailing from.
Mahomes’ family made headlines again just 48 hours after the Chiefs’ devastating 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59, but not in a good way.
A video emerged on social media showing Mahomes’ dad, Patrick Mahomes Sr., getting into a physical altercation with former MLB pitcher John Rocker on Bourbon Street sometime during the week leading up to the Super Bowl.
The video shows Rocker approach Mahomes Sr., who was also an MLB pitcher himself, with a drink in his hand and shout “What’s up dude?”
It appears he tried to shake Mahomes Sr.’s hand, but he responded aggressively and seemed to shout something back at Rocker before the two began yelling expletives at one another while some friends separated them.

As Mahomes Sr. was ushered away by one of his friends, Rocker threw his drink at him as the video cut out.
It’s not clear what started the confrontation and no punches were thrown.
Mahomes Sr. is currently serving five years of probation with one year of “intense supervision” after pleading guilty to his third DWI charge back in August of last year. He also spent 10 days in jail and had his license suspended for one year.
