Patrick Mahomes' Dad Showed True Character With AFC Championship Comment

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are headed to the Super Bowl for the fifth time in the last six years.

The Chiefs outlasted the Buffalo Bills 32-29 to win the AFC Championship last Sunday. With the win, Kansas City moved to 4-0 in postseason play gainst Buffalo and its star quarterback Josh Allen. The Bills have been one of the league's best teams over the last five years, but the Chiefs continue to have their number when it matters most.

On Monday, Mahomes' father Pat, a former longtime MLB pitcher, trolled Bills fans on social media. Pat Mahomes Sr. has been a constant presence at his son's playoff games over the years and is known for his own colorful brand of smack talk.

"Today is a great day to not be from Buffalo," Mahomes Sr. wrote Monday morning.

While no one can blame the elder Mahomes for being fired up about the win, many felt he should have handled things better and refrained from rubbing it in. Angry Bills fans and others responded to the taunt by calling Mahomes Sr. classless, with some bringing up his DUI history.

Perhaps Pat Sr. was motivated by the same animosity his daughter-in-law Brittany has for Bills fans. After the win, Brittany Mahomes reminded Bills Mafia members of the time some Buffalo supporters hung a Kermit The Frog doll with a Mahomes jersey on it in effigy.

"Do we remember this Buffalo? Absolutely disgusting," Brittany Mahomes said. "So as you go home tonight, I pray we become better people."

It's also entirely possible that Mahomes Sr. was simply looking to start some trouble.

Either way, it's not the biggest deal in the world, but still a little bit of a low blow for the dad of the best quarterback in football to resort to social media jabs at an opposing fanbase.

It should be noted though that Patrick Mahomes kept things classy in his postgame remarks toward Allen, his Buffalo counterpart.

"I have so much respect for Josh, man. He's a true competitor. True warrior. Great football player. They always comes down to the wire. Luckily we were on the winning side this time..." Mahomes said.

Mahomes even went as far as to "apologize" to Allen for eliminating him once again, though some observers felt that move was a bit patronizing from the three-time Super Bowl winner.

At the end of the day, the Chiefs are going back to the Super Bowl. If they beat the Philadelphia Eagles on Feb. 9, they'll become the first team in the Super Bowl era to "three-peat" as champions.

Should that happen, you can guarantee Pat Mahomes Sr. will have somethign to say about it.
