As the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) heads into the summer break, the Kansas City Current sit eight points clear atop the standings, fresh off a league-leading $36 million in 2024 revenue and a valuation of $275 million, second only to Angel City FC.
On Thursday, the Current broke ground on a second phase of development that introduced a new state-of-the-art Performance Center and the expansion of the Current's grass and turf pitches, bringing the club’s total investment in soccer facilities to between $225 million and $250 million, according to co-owner Chris Long.
Shortly after the Current posted on Instagram to celebrate the new development, co-owners Patrick Mahomes, NFL quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, reshared the Current's post on their own Instagram stories.
Patrick Mahomes has become one of the world’s highest-profile athletes on and off the field since taking over as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback in 2018.
Over eight NFL seasons (seven as a starter), he’s thrown for 32,352 yards and 245 touchdowns, won three Super Bowls and three Super Bowl MVPs and collected two regular-season MVPs.
Off-field, Mahomes holds minority stakes in MLB's Kansas City Royals, Major League Soccer’s Sporting Kansas City, Alpine F1 and co-owns the NWSL's Kansas City Current alongside his wife, Brittany, as well as Chris and Angie Long.
Patrick and Brittany Mahomes were high school sweethearts at Whitehouse High School in Texas, married on March 12, 2022, and now share three young children: Sterling Skye (2021), Patrick III "Bronze" (2022) and Golden Raye (January 2025).
