Patrick Mahomes keys SGP for Monday Night Football

Chiefs vs. Raiders wraps our Week 5 and considering we've hit two straight SGPs on primetime, we're excited for tonight.

Las Vegas Raiders @ Kansas City Chiefs

Las Vegas: 1-3 overall, 1-3 ATS, 2-1-1 overs Kansas City: 3-1 overall, 2-2 ATS, 2-2 overs

Patrick Mahomes has owned the AFC West since entering the NFL. In 25 divisional games, Mahomes is 22-3 against AFC West opponents. The Raiders have had their obvious struggles against the Chiefs since Mahomes has been their quarterback. The Chiefs are 7-1 against the Raiders the past four seasons, particularly dominating them last season with an average margin of victory of 33 points. Despite this, there's a trend worth noting around the Chiefs ATS. Since November 8, 2020, Kansas City is 7-17 ATS when more than a field goal favorite. The Chiefs are currently 7.5-point favorites for tonight.

+317 SGP for tonight on FanDuel

  • Chiefs moneyline
  • Patrick Mahomes 250+ passing yards
  • Derek Carr 225+ passing yards
  • Josh Jacobs over 18.5 receiving yards

The first leg is the Chiefs' moneyline. Kansas City is the far superior team and has dominated the Raiders for years, as we just mentioned above. We're a bit nervous about their tendencies at covering the spread, so we opt for the safer path of just betting on them to win.

Mahomes is averaging 338 passing yards per game in his past four meetings against Las Vegas, throwing for 340+ three times, with a low of 258. The 250+ option here feels safe, as it's a number the star passer has reached in 33 of his last 42 games.

Derek Carr has reached 225 passing yards in 71% of his games from the past two seasons and has thrown for 260+ yards in each of the last four meetings against Kansas City.

The Chiefs have been generous to running backs catching the football this season: the starting running back has gone over on receiving yards in all four games this season, averaging 40.25 receiving yards per game. In comes Josh Jacobs, who has 31 receiving yards in two straight games off the back of 12 targets.

Nothing crazy for our night, but it's a combination that feels strong to end Week 5 in the NFL.

In the news ...

Divisional Series set in MLB playoffs — The Wild Card Series delivered some nice moments in baseball this weekend, and we're down to eight teams. Upsets reigned supreme, with the Padres, Mariners, Phillies, and Guardians all advancing. Cleveland was the only team to be favored to win their series before Friday. The action continues on Tuesday. We have Mariners-Astros and Guardians-Yankees in the American League and Phillies-Braves and Padres-Dodgers in the National League. The Dodgers and Astros are the two favorites to advance to the World Series.

NFL Week 5 takeaways: Is the NFC East the best division in football? — We leave Sunday in football with the Eagles still unbeaten at 5-0, but they're hardly alone in their division. The Giants pulled off a big upset win over the Packers in London, and the Cowboys easily dismantled the Rams, with both teams advancing to 4-1. We are just a few years removed from the 7-9 Washington Football Team winning the NFC East, and suddenly the division has the best cumulative record in the NFL. This sets up a massive "Sunday Night Football" contest next week between Philadelphia and Dallas in Philly.

Rest of NHL gets started this week — We had the Predators and Sharks briefly get our NHL season started with two games in Prague, and now the normally scheduled regular season is almost here. The action on the ice begins tomorrow with an Eastern Conference Final rematch between the Lightning and Rangers, followed by the Vegas Golden Knights visiting the Los Angeles Kings. Get up to speed with this year in hockey with our 32 bold predictions for the season.

Matt Rhule out as Panthers coach — After weeks of being on the proverbial hot seat, the rumors are true: Matt Rhule has been fired by the Carolina Panthers. Carolina is 1-4 and in last place in the NFC South. The Panthers are currently +1700 to turn it around and win the division.
