Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs suffered a loss to Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles in shocking fashion.
The Chiefs entered Super Bowl LIX looking to make NFL history. After winning back-to-back Super Bowl titles, Kansas City was attempting to become the first team to win three straight Lombardi Trophies.
While they were in position to do so, they lost 40-22 to Hurts and the Eagles.
Following the game, Mahomes shared his thoughts on Hurts leading the Eagles to Super Bowl victory.
Mahomes mentioned that the Chiefs got the best of Hurts and the Eagles two years ago in Super Bowl LVII, but this was a different story.
"The one thing that I've always respected about Jalen is that he's a winner," Mahomes said, per KSHB 41. "Some people take it as, it's not a good thing, but you have to find ways to win with your football team that you have around you.
"If he needs to run the ball, he'll run it, if he needs to throw the ball, he'll throw it. If he needs to make a big play he'll make a big play. That's stuff that not everybody has. That's something that I have a lot of respect for Jalen," Mahomes continued.
Hurts finished the game with two touchdowns and 221 yards, completing 17-of-22 pass attempts. He also led the Eagles' rush game, posting one touchdown and 72 yards on the ground.
The Eagles quarterback was awarded the MVP after Super Bowl LIX, leading the offense to 345 total yards on 21 first-down conversions and 4.9 yards per play.
Philadelphia wound up defeating the Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Rams and Green Bay Packers en route to Super Bowl victory.
