Patriots Announce Rob Gronkowski News on Wednesday

The New England Patriots once again turned to their fan base to decide the next addition to the franchise’s Hall of Fame, which featured 32 former players and five "contributors" through Tuesday.

A panel of media members, alumni and team staff narrows the field of candidates each year before handing the final decision of who to induct to the franchise's fans, who vote online over a multi-week window to determine the new Hall of Fame member.

The most recent selections reflected the latest Patriots championship core, including the trio of Julian Edelman (2025), Tom Brady (2024) and Mike Vrabel (2023), all of whom were inducted in consecutive years.

The 2026 vote followed a similar process and produced another name closely tied to that era of success and widely expected to make it eventually.

The Patriots announced on Wednesday that Rob Gronkowski has been selected as the 38th inductee into the team’s Hall of Fame, earning the honor in his first year of eligibility.

Gronkowski played nine seasons in New England from 2010 to 2018, totaling 521 receptions, 7,861 yards and 79 receiving touchdowns in regular-season games. He ranks first in franchise history with 80 total touchdowns and second in receiving yards.

The tight end's postseason production was equally great, with Gronkowski racking up 1,163 yards and 12 touchdowns on 81 receptions across 16 playoff appearances, including three Super Bowl championship runs.

Patriots chairman Robert Kraft emphasized both performance and presence when discussing the selection.

“Rob Gronkowski’s performance on the field was extraordinary, but it was his infectious energy and consistently positive presence that truly set him apart,” Kraft said. “He always brightened everyone’s day.”

“He earned the respect of coaches and teammates through his work ethic, preparation and unselfish approach, while redefining what it meant to play his position.”

According to the Patriots' press release, the franchise will announce the date for the induction ceremony after the 2026 NFL schedule is released later in the offseason.
