Patriots broadcaster: Tom Brady comeback '100% in play'

Add former NFL quarterback Scott Zolak to the list of people who believe Tom Brady could end his latest retirement to sign with the Miami Dolphins as a free agent later this year. 

Per Sean T. McGuire of NESN and Nick O'Malley of MassLive, Zolak is respected as a "well-sourced New England Patriots broadcaster" and offered his take during Wednesday's edition of the "Zolak & Bertrand" program he co-hosts on 98.5 The Sports Hub. 

"Brady may go to Miami. I think that’s in play. I do," Zolak explained. "I think the possibility of him coming out of retirement is definitely 100% in play." 

Some may remember that Zolak suggested in February 2022 that Brady's first retirement was actually about forcing a trade from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the San Francisco 49ers. It's now widely believed Brady actually wanted to join the Dolphins ahead of this past season. 

On Wednesday, Zolak mentioned how NFL Network's Rich Eisen recently said he heard during the combine that some within the league think Brady could end up with the Dolphins because the team has doubts about the durability of starter Tua Tagovailoa. 

Zolak also pointed out that Fox's Colin Cowherd reported Tuesday that "somebody I trust outside of this building" at the network said he/she thinks Brady isn't yet making the move to broadcasting because the 45-year-old still "wants to play" in 2023. 

"I know his handlers have moved to Miami," Zolak continued about Brady. "It’s built for him. He’s looking at private schools for his kids. Cowherd talks about the San Francisco offense. He’s not talking about San Francisco. He’s talking about (head coach) Mike McDaniel in Miami." 

Brady's ex-wife, Gisele Bündchen, owns a home in Miami.

For what it's worth, it was reported Tuesday that the Dolphins won't pursue any starting quarterback this offseason, in part because McDaniel thinks Tagovailoa "is the perfect fit for his system." 

That's all well and good, but there continue to be rumblings that some within the Dolphins have serious concerns about Tagovailoa's health after the 25-year-old suffered a minimum of two known concussions during the 2022 season, alone. 

Brady jokingly tweeted about stories regarding a potential comeback on Tuesday, but he also did nothing to silence such rumors ahead of the new league year that opens next Wednesday.
