New England Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf gave a cryptic update Monday on wide receiver Stefon Diggs, days after head coach Mike Vrabel confronted a reporter on the subject.
Per Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald, Wolf praised Diggs for his hard work in rehabbing from the ACL injury that ended his season last year, but did not provide details on a timeline for his return.
"I would say he's probably done more than I would have expected to this point," Wolf said. "He's been a tremendous worker. He's been out there practicing every time we've asked him to. That's all part of (head athletic trainer) Jim Whalen's plan for him working forward."

Diggs was inactive for New England's preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday. The All-Pro receiver has been cleared for contact, but told the media last week that "we'll see" about his availability for Week 1.
When asked about Diggs' comments by Phil Perry of NBC Sports on Wednesday, Vrabel asked if the reporter was training to bait him into a controversy before admitting he wasn't sure if the receiver would play at the beginning of the regular season.
Wolf's update was vague, and it isn't going to stop the questions surrounding Diggs' status with the Patriots. Per CBS Sports, the decision for Diggs to miss the preseason opener against the Washington Commanders was a coaching choice and was not related to the receiver's health.
While Wolf wanted to praise Diggs for being a "tremendous worker," there is a belief that the coaching decision was related to the boating incident where Diggs was seen partying during voluntary OTAs in May.
This is a storyline that won't go away until the Patriots address the issue. Instead, they're feeding the fire, and it might continue until at least Week 1.
