Patriots Get Bad News on Cooper Kupp’s Price

The New England Patriots have been on a mission this off-season to build their roster and attempt to make a postseason appearance.

The Patriots spent $260 million of this year’s salary cap on the first day of the legal tampering process alone. There are still some areas that the team feels they could improve, including the wide receiver core.

One player the Patriots would love to add to their offense and give second-year quarterback Drake Maye a top target is former Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp. He was released by the Los Angeles Rams on Wednesday, March 13, after they failed to find a trade partner.

Kupp will now look to get his career back on track after missing 17 games in the last three seasons. He is still one of the most dynamic playmaking wide receivers in the league.

There is reportedly a handful of teams interested in signing Kupp to a long-term deal, including the Patriots, according to MassLive’s Karen Guregian. The bad news for the Patriots, however, is that the current asking price to get Kupp is “a bit too steep.”

The Patriots are willing to sign key players to their roster, but they’ve already spent a lot in the first few days of the league assembling their roster. They went out to re-sign tight end Austin Hooper and sign wide receiver Mack Hollins, but there isn’t a true top target for the Patriots as of now.

Kupp prefers to find a new team sooner than later, but the situation won’t be finished until he signs with a team. The Patriots could still be in the hunt for Kupp if they choose to find the money to sign him, but it is not likely that Kupp will be in Foxborough as a Patriot.
