Patriots hit Mac Jones with final nail in coffin
Eric Canha-USA TODAY Sports

FOXBOROUGH, Mass - The New England Patriots have officially seen enough from Mac Jones.

The quarterback, who began the season as the starter, was demoted to backup after consistent offensive struggles. And it was Bailey Zappe who earned the starting spot.

However, in their final game of the season, the Patriots hit Mac Jones with the final nail in his coffin.

Jones was further demoted, being named the emergency third quarterback in Sunday's season finale. Nathan Rourke will serve as the backup.

This could also signify Jones' time in New England has come to an end.

Jones had a standout rookie season, but declined his second year. And in the third season, it hit the lowest point. In his three seasons, Jones has 864 completions for a completion percentage of 66.1 percent, throwing for 8,918 yards and 46 touchdowns in 42 games played. On the rushing side, he has 117 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.
