Patriots sign WR Mathew Sexton to practice squad after successful workout
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

On Wednesday morning, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said that they will fill the final practice squad spot that same day. And the team wasted no time.

The Boston Herald's Doug Kyed reports that the Patriots have signed wide receiver Mathew Sexton to the practice squad.

This comes after a successful workout, with Sexton being one of the 13 players hosted by the Patriots earlier this week.

Sexton is already a little familiar with two members of the Patriots team, having played with Sidy Sow and Chad Ryland at Eastern Michigan.

Going undrafted out of college, Sexton began his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but only saw game time during the preseason. He most recently was with the Atlanta Falcons, but was cut in September.

With Demario Douglas having sustained a head injury in Sunday's loss to the New York Giants, Sexton provides additional depth and even has some punt return experience.
