Michael Pittman Jr., who signed a three-year, $59 million deal with Pittsburgh, believes he’s a perfect fit for the Steelers.
"I feel like Pittsburgh is my style of football — tough, smashmouth, gritty — and I think I fit in perfectly here," Pittman said Friday at his introductory news conference, via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Pittsburgh's offense struggled through 2025, ranking 25th in total offense (305.6 yards per game) and 22nd in receiving (202.4 yards). They also had no 1,000-yard receiver last season, with top target DK Metcalf finishing at 850.
Metcalf also served a two-game suspension late in the season for an interaction with a fan, leaving the Steelers thin at the position — a gap Pittman is expected to help fill after his acquisition in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts.
"I don't want to give up his secret sauce, but it was very positive and diversifying the things that I can do," Pittman said of his visit with new Steelers coach Mike McCarthy. "Because, obviously, in Indy, I played a certain role there. You were asked to play a certain role. Like, you gotta do it. So [now I'm] just getting back to where I have more of a diverse route tree."
In 2025, Pittman Jr.'s production dipped to 784 receiving yards after he finished 2024 with 808 yards and three TD catches. However, Pittman Jr. increased his TD catches to a career-high seven.
The Steelers have two quarterbacks on the roster: backups Mason Rudolph and Will Howard. Four-time All-Pro quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who was with the team last season, remains unsigned and is an option, especially with his former head coach in Green Bay running the show.
Pittman Jr. praised Rudolph and Howard, calling them “good quarterbacks,” but may have dropped a hint that Rodgers could be returning.
"Whenever you have a chance to play with a Hall of Fame quarterback, you always take that," Pittman said. "We also have two really good quarterbacks here in Mason (Rudolph) and Will (Howard), so whatever ends up turning out, I think we'll have a good plan offensively and we'll make the most of it."
With Rodgers still available in free agency, his former coach at the helm and having two great receiving options, a reunion might look enticing for the 10-time Pro Bowl quarterback.
