Philadelphia Eagles 2025 NFL schedule analysis

The 2025 NFL regular-season schedule has been released, and Philadelphia faces a tough road ahead as defending Super Bowl champions.

Last year, the Eagles shared the league’s 21st-toughest schedule with the Colts. This year, they’ll face a total of 10 playoff teams as part of the league’s fourth-toughest schedule, per NFL research.

Here’s what stands out about the schedule.

Circle the date | Sept. 14 at Kansas City Chiefs (Week 2)

Philadelphia avenged a 38-35 loss to Kansas City in Super Bowl LVII with a 40-22 win over the Chiefs in last year’s Super Bowl. Had they lost, Kansas City would have become the first NFL team to win three straight Super Bowls and the first team to win three consecutive NFL championships since the Green Bay Packers from 1965-67.

It’s a bit surprising that a rematch of last year’s Super Bowl teams is so early in the season, and more surprising that the game won’t have a prime-time audience. Regardless, expect the Chiefs to have a chip on their shoulder when they welcome the Eagles to Arrowhead Stadium.

Toughest stretch | Week 1 through Week 4

The Eagles will kick off the regular season against rival Dallas. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott missed both matchups with injury last season but is 9-4 against the Eagles for his career.

After that, it’s off to Kansas City to play the AFC champions, back to Philadelphia to meet the NFC West champion Rams, then down to Tampa Bay to play the NFC South champion Buccaneers.

Of their first four opponents, only the (7-10) Cowboys finished 2024 with a losing record. The others combined to go 35-16, which leaves Philadelphia little room for error this September.

Easiest stretch | Week 5 through Week 8

October is much better with four easier games leading to the team’s Week 9 bye. First up is a home game against the Broncos and second-year quarterback Bo Nix. Denver impressed with a 10-7 record in 2024 but defeated just two teams with winning records, Tampa Bay and a Chiefs team that featured quarterback Carson Wentz in a meaningless regular-season finale.

After that, the Eagles travel to play the (3-14) New York Giants before traveling to Minnesota to face quarterback J.J. McCarthy in his sixth NFL start. An early afternoon home game against the Giants follows before the team takes a break.

Beware the Pewter and Red | Sept. 28 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Week 4)

Atlanta, Washington and Tampa Bay were the only teams to defeat Philadelphia in 2024. The Eagles got revenge on the Commanders with a 55-23 win in the NFC Championship Game, but the Buccaneers continue to be a thorn in their side.

Tampa bounced Philadelphia from the playoffs in 2023 with a 32-9 home victory in the NFC wild-card game. Last year, it sent the Eagles into their bye week with a 33-16 defeat, also at home in Week 4.

This year, the Eagles head back to Raymond James Stadium for yet another rematch with the defending NFC South champions. They’ll need to do better than the 114 passing yards they managed last time, and certainly can’t allow another 445 yards to the Buccaneers offense.
