Philadelphia Eagles: Acquire Talented But Underutilized Receiver
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks (13) runs through a drill during the second day of training camp on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Ray Nitschke Field in Ashwaubenon, Wis.

The Philadelphia Eagles needed to address the wide receiver position regardless of what happens with A.J. Brown this offseason, despite the constant trade chatter. It would be ideal for the Eagles to be less reliant on Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, and Saquon Barkley, and to have more receivers involved, similar to the Green Bay Packers, where incoming offensive coordinator Sean Mannion previously coached (was a QB coach). So far, the Eagles have signed Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore, while Johnny Wilson is recovering from a season-ending knee and ankle injury.

Philadelphia Eagles acquire a talented but underutilized receiver

According to Adam Schefter, the Philadelphia Eagles have acquired Dontayvion Wicks from the Green Bay Packers in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick, reuniting with Sean Mannion. The Eagles are expected to sign him to a one-year, $12.5 million extension, securing him through the 2027 season, as he will earn $3.674 million in 2026. Wicks is a talented route runner who is one of the league’s best separators, but has struggled with drops, recording an 11.1% drop rate, and was buried in the Packers’ crowded depth chart.

Here’s a quick review of his 2025 campaign

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks (13) makes a catch against Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch (32) during the second half at Ford Field in Detroit on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025.

Dontayvion Wicks reduced his drop rate to just three in his third season but posted career lows in targets, receptions, yards, touchdowns, and playing time. He hauled in 30 receptions on 46 targets for 332 yards and two touchdowns across 14 games, seven starts, and 408 offensive snaps. His best game came on Thanksgiving in front of a national audience, where he hauled in six receptions for 94 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-sealing reception on fourth down. Wicks missed two games due to a calf injury and sat out the regular-season finale and the Wild Card Round due to a concussion.
