Philadelphia Eagles Change Their Stance on A.J. Brown Trade

A.J. Brown has been the topic of conversation for the Philadelphia Eagles’ offseason. After a season of distractions and offensive inconsistency, it was expected that the Eagles would trade Brown before the 2026 season. New reports suggest that it isn’t the case, though. The Eagles reportedly “want A.J. Brown in an Eagles uniform in 2026.”

Eagles Change Their Stance?

It is still early in the offseason, and things can change quickly. For now, though, it appears the Eagles will look to hang on to their superstar wide receiver. Eagles insider Derrick Gunn reported that the Eagles “want A.J. Brown in an Eagles uniform in 2026”. He continued to say that he believes Brown “never really wanted to get out of town.” ESPN insider Adam Schefter said something similar, stating, “I would be more inclined to say that he’d stay there.” He continued to discuss how it is still up in the air, and the situation could change quickly.

The chances of a Brown trade are still about a coin flip. It is trending in the direction of Brown staying, though. There was a time when a divorce between the two felt inevitable. This is a very encouraging sign for the Eagles as their offense looks to recover in 2026.

The Case for Keeping Brown

The Eagles keeping A.J. Brown would go a long way toward bouncing back on offense. Trading a player as good as Brown will make the offense worse. From a win-now standpoint, it is hard for the Eagles to justify trading him. Since joining the Eagles in 2022, he has been one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. Brown has three All-Pro seasons, leading the team in receiving yards in three of his four seasons. While there have been ups and downs, Brown has consistently been the Eagles’ best pass catcher over his tenure. While he may not be quite as dominant as he was in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Brown is still a great player. With a first-time play caller in Sean Mannion, the Eagles will need all the help they can get offensively. There are many questions surrounding the Eagles’ offense at the moment. Will the Eagles’ offensive line return to form? How will the new coaching staff look? What will the tight end group look like? Keeping Brown around eliminates one less question the team needs to answer. Trading Brown would also require the team to invest draft capital in the wide receiver position, which could be used to fill other holes.

Could A.J. Brown Still Be Dealt?

Things are trending in the right direction for Brown and the Eagles. It still is not a guarantee that he will be back, though.

If a team makes a convincing offer for Brown, Howie Roseman will not be afraid to make a deal. It’s hard to imagine Brown being moved for anything less than a first-round pick. If a wide receiver-needy team offers one, though, Brown could be on the move. The team will also have to decide if they want to have Brown’s distractions in 2026. From Madden streams to post-game interviews, Brown created controversy week in and week out. Roseman and company could still decide “the juice is no longer worth the squeeze” and move on from Brown.

The offseason is still young. With months until the Eagles report to training camp, anything can happen. For now, though, it appears the Eagles may retain A.J. Brown for his fifth season with the Eagles.
