Philadelphia Eagles Get Major Saquon Barkley Injury Update

Saquon Barkley walked out of Lincoln Financial Field under his own power Sunday, a small but meaningful sign after a right hamstring injury cut short his afternoon and left the Philadelphia Eagles short-handed in a 24-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

The injury arrived early. In the first quarter, Barkley ran out of bounds and was clearly uncomfortable. He was checked in the medical tent, then sent to the locker room for further evaluation.

Before the game reached overtime, the Eagles ruled him out. He finished with two carries for eight yards, a quiet line for a back the offense still leans on when it wants to set the tone.

Head coach Nick Sirianni did not address the injury after the game, and Barkley himself did not speak with reporters.

The clearest public update came from Ashlyn Sullivan of NBC Sports Philadelphia, who reported that Barkley left the stadium with his family as the final whistle sounded and was walking normally.

That detail does not clear him for next week, but it suggests the hamstring did not leave him hobbled on the way out of the building.

The setback lands on a season that has already asked Barkley to play through something else. In Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans he suffered a stinger, and there was real doubt about whether he would be available for the Week 3 trip to Chicago.

He played against the Bears with extra protection around his neck and looked closer to himself, carrying 15 times for 82 yards. That outing had been the encouraging step. The hamstring now replaces the neck as the immediate concern.

Philadelphia controlled much of Sunday’s game, only for the Rams to climb back late. The defense held up well enough to keep the Eagles in it. The offense did not.

Without Barkley, Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley split the work. Bigsby carried 14 times for 55 yards; Shipley added six carries for 23.

Neither changed the shape of the afternoon the way Barkley can when he is healthy and the run game is allowed to stay on schedule.

The loss drops the Eagles to 2-2, the same record as Los Angeles. Next up is a trip to London to face the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Barkley’s availability for that game is unsettled.

A normal walk to the car is not a clearance, and hamstring injuries have a way of lingering even when the first pictures look reassuring.

Philadelphia will spend the week sorting out how serious this one is, and whether the back who just started to look free of his earlier neck issue will be on the field across the Atlantic.
