Philadelphia Eagles Terminate WR Contract Before Giants Game

The Philadelphia Eagles released wide receiver Quentin Skinner from their practice squad on Tuesdya, ending a brief and uneventful stint with the club, via the NFL transaction wire.

The team made the move the same day it waived cornerback Jakorian Bennett from injured reserve, continuing a stretch of roster adjustments as the Eagles attempt to steady a season that has slipped to 2-6.

Skinner, a 6-foot-5, 195-pound receiver from Claremore, Oklahoma, arrived in Philadelphia only six days earlier.

On October 28, the Eagles signed him to the practice squad while placing running back Dameon Pierce on injured reserve and promoting Jaydon Blue to the active roster.

Skinner never saw game action in green and white and was released without fanfare, a common outcome for developmental players cycling through practice squads during a turbulent year.

His path to the Eagles reflected the typical grind of an undrafted free agent. After going unselected in the 2025 NFL Draft following a productive career at Kansas, Skinner signed with the New York Jets.

He spent most of his rookie season on the practice squad before being elevated late in the year and recording one catch for 10 yards.

The Jets waived him with an injury designation in June 2026; the Buffalo Bills claimed him the following month, only to release him at the end of training camp.

He remained available until the Eagles added him in late October, seemingly as depth insurance while DeVonta Smith dealt with a lingering hamstring issue and Dontayvion Wicks managed an ankle injury.

At Kansas, Skinner developed into a reliable deep threat. Over three primary seasons, he totaled 80 receptions for 1,584 yards and 11 touchdowns, consistently averaging nearly 20 yards per catch.

His size and ability to stretch the field made him an intriguing developmental piece, yet he has yet to secure a sustained role in the league.

The release comes as the Eagles navigate significant offensive challenges.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts has been sidelined by blood clots, leaving Tanner McKee under center for a unit that ranks near the bottom of the league in scoring.

With key skill-position players missing time, the coaching staff under Nick Sirianni has leaned on a rotating cast of practice-squad elevations and short-term signings.

Skinner’s quick exit suggests he did not separate himself enough in limited practice opportunities to justify a continued roster spot, particularly as the team evaluates other options ahead of its remaining schedule.

For Skinner, the release returns him to free agency with limited NFL production on his résumé.

At 24 years old, he still has time to land elsewhere, but the brief Philadelphia chapter underscores how difficult it remains for undrafted receivers to stick, even on teams searching for answers.
