After only one year in Philadelphia, pass rusher Bryce Huff might be traded after the upcoming season. Adam Schefter reports from ESPN that the Eagles are trying to send Huff to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a mid-round pick.

Bryce Huff Looking Elsewhere

The surprise move arises because the Eagles signed Huff to a significant contract just a year ago. As Huff recorded only 2.5 sacks in 12 games during his first season in Philly, it seems the team will look for another player.

The deal won’t be complete until June 1 because, according to reports, Huff restructured his contract to help facilitate the trade. He was unable to play many games in 2024 because of injuries. Huff made it back for the playoff games, but he didn’t play during the Eagles’ Super Bowl win against the Kansas City Chiefs and that choice caused some to discuss if he would remain with the team.

It grew more urgent this week when Huff did not attend voluntary OTAs. Brandon Graham retiring and Josh Sweat signing another contract left a chance for Huff to play more in 2025 had he stayed with the Eagles. The fact that he’s not with the team and the club is talking trade suggests he is not in the Eagles’ future plans on defense.

Letting Bryce Huff play for the 49ers is a risk they are willing to take. Even though his time in Philly did not go well, Huff finished his final season with the New York Jets with dominance, recording 10 sacks as well as 21 quarterback hits in 2023. It was the reason he got his lucrative free-agent contract.

Joining the 49ers would allow Huff to meet back up with Robert Saleh, as he was head coach when Huff was with the Jets. Should Saleh unlock Huff’s 2023 season, it could be a massive win for San Francisco at a tiny cost.

Look out, because the official deal could be announced after June 1.
