Tuesday may have been a turning point for the New York Jets (4-5).
Not only was running back Michael Carter waived, but the team held a players-only meeting, according to ESPN , which likely signals more changes could be coming as head coach Robert Saleh confirmed to reporters on Wednesday morning.

The players-only meeting was receiver Garrett Wilson’s idea, likely spawned in the moments after New York’s 16-12 “Sunday Night Football” loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.
“We don't want to finish the season and look back like we should've done this earlier ... so let's talk about it now,” Wilson said Tuesday on ESPN Radio’s “Bart & Hahn Show.” “Hopefully, it leads to results, but the reality of us doing that and doing the right thing as far as calling a players-only meeting and talking, it doesn't guarantee anything. We still have to go out and do it, but we're taking the right steps and we're turning over every stone because it matters to us.”
Many expect some of the changes Saleh hinted at to come on the offensive side of the ball. The Jets have the third-worst scoring offense in the NFL, managing just eight touchdowns this season.
The Jets haven’t score a touchdown in their last 11 quarters – a stretch that includes 34 possessions. Those possessions ended with 20 punts, eight field goals, four fumbles, an interception and a turnover-on-downs.
“We’ve got to make sure we're all on the same page about where we're at and how the hell we get out of this funk, man,” Wilson added. “When it comes from one of your teammates, it always hits different. It always resonates a little bit more.”
A fourth-round pick by the Jets in 2021, Carter had just eight carries for 38 yards in nine games this season. He was pushed down the depth chart by free-agent signing Dalvin Cook and with Saleh looking to involve rookie Israel Abanikanda more in the offense, Carter was the odd man out.
Another unexpected (but welcome) change for New York could be the return of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who was initially targeting a mid-December return but said on Wednesday's episode of “The Pat McAfee Show” that it’s possible he’s back after Thanksgiving.
