Predraft visit fuels speculation regarding certain Cardinals move

Widely linked to Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson in mock drafts, the Arizona Cardinals are doing their due diligence with the first round a little over a week away.

On Wednesday, the final day teams can have 2026 NFL Draft prospects in for predraft visits, reports revealed that the Cardinals are getting a closer look at Simpson. He is widely viewed as QB2 behind Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza, the presumptive No. 1 overall pick.

"One to keep an eye on," NFL insider Ian Rapoport wrote on social media.

Cardinals bring QB Ty Simpson in for a predraft visit as mock drafts widely link the two

In 2026 mocks released Wednesday by Todd McShay, ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. and The Athletic's Dane Brugler, all three draft analysts predict the Cardinals to select Simpson. McShay and Kiper have Arizona moving into the back end of Round 1 to land the one-year Alabama starter, while Brugler has Simpson falling to the Cardinals at No. 34 overall in the second round.

With perhaps the league's worst quarterback depth chart, it makes sense why Arizona wants to gain as much intel on Simpson as possible. Entering the draft, which begins on Thursday, April 23, Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew are the Cardinals' top two quarterbacks after Kyler Murray's release. Both offer replacement-level production at best, giving Simpson more upside.

Per reports, the Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins and New York Jets have also expressed predraft interest in Simpson, and they have a combined six picks between Arizona's first- and second-round selections (Nos. 3 and 34).

If the Cardinals like what they see and hear in their visit with Simpson, they may be inclined to make an aggressive play near the end of the first round and trade up to land him. Last year, the New York Giants traded a second (No. 34 overall) and two thirds to the Houston Texans for the No. 25 pick, which they used to select quarterback Jaxson Dart. Should a similar package be enough for Arizona to move up, it will have to strongly consider it.

A lot could be riding on Simpson's predraft visit with the Cardinals. As arguably the favorite to select the quarterback prospect, it might give them the final validation they need to not leave the first round without him.
