Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf should have one less thing to worry about this offseason.

The two-time Pro Bowler served a two-game suspension for hitting a Detroit Lions fan during a game at Ford Field last season. However, he will not face any criminal charges as a result of the altercation.

“Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf will not face charges for a Dec. 21 incident involving him and a Detroit Lions fan at Ford Field, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office announced in a statement on Friday, May 1,” the Detroit Free Press reported on Friday afternoon.

The Prosecutor’s office told the outlet that, “After an extensive review of all the relevant evidence, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has determined that charges will not issue in this case.”

“At approximately 5:30 p.m., it is alleged that [Kennedy] left his seat holding a Metcalf jersey to get an autograph,” the statement notes. “As he approached the front railing of the stands, he said something to Mr. Metcalf. As Mr. Metcalf approached the stands, there was a brief interaction where Mr. Metcalf grabbed his shirt and pushed him back. The fan did not appear to be injured, nor did he seek medical attention at the game,” the statement said.

The fan, Ryan Kennedy, is suing Metcalf, as well as former NFL stars Chad Johnson and Shannon Sharpe, for making “defamatory and life-altering statements.”

Metcalf’s attorney, Mitch Schuster, has released a statement praising the decision.

“We are confident that justice will also prevail in the civil claim involving Mr. Kennedy. As Mr. Metcalf’s counterclaim in the civil case makes clear, Mr. Kennedy’s hate-fueled conduct has no place anywhere, and especially not in professional sports,” Schuster wrote.

Jonathan R. Marko, Kennedy’s lawyer, said the decision will have no bearing on the lawsuit.

“I think a reasonable person upon seeing the video would consider that an assault and/or a battery under the criminal law,” Marco told the outlet.

He also said that it was “not surprising” the prosecutor wouldn’t press charges because it would cost the office “tremendous resources.”

Metcalf forfeited over $500,000 in game checks and had his $45 million in guarantees voided during his suspension.

But he won’t face any punishment under the law.
