QB Russell Wilson reveals key to Broncos' five-game win streak

Despite a 1-5 start, Denver quarterback Russell Wilson insisted his confidence in the team never wavered, which is one reason the Broncos have won five straight games and are back in the playoff hunt.

"I never doubted our football team and where we could go," Wilson said Sunday, following a 29-12 victory over the Browns. "We've handled the adversity. The reality is that we have a lot more ball to go. We have to stay humble and hungry. We have a lot more to do. We feel like we're just getting started."

During the streak, Wilson joined Hall of Famer Peyton Manning as the only Denver QBs since the 1970 merger to post a 90-plus passer rating in five consecutive victories, per NFL Research. Denver's defense has stepped up, too. Over the past five games, it has forced 16 takeaways and only allowed 80 points (16 PPG), via StatMuse.

"The quintet of victories didn't come against also-rans, either," wrote NFL.com's Kevin Patra. "Four of the five wins came against teams currently sitting in playoff position (Kansas City, Buffalo, Minnesota, Cleveland), and the fifth was over a Packers team that could inch their way back into the hunt."

Even though Denver is rolling, some believe they won't make the playoffs.

"Denver is playing great, but there are more lulls that await," wrote ESPN's Dan Graziano. "The Broncos' next three games are all on the road versus the Texans, Chargers and Lions. If Denver goes 2-1 or 3-0, I'll buy it. But this AFC race is a massive jumble, from top to bottom."

Denver is ninth in the AFC, but if the team wins its next three games, its postseason chances will increase dramatically. The New York Times simulator notes they'll soar from 34% to 93%. Perhaps Wilson and the Broncos will keep proving doubters wrong.
