Giants QB Tommy DeVito has unique pregame habit

It turns out New York Giants undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito prefers to get right to work on gamedays, even when he's his team's starting quarterback.

"With Tommy, first of all, he doesn’t throw at warmups," Giants rookie wide receiver Jalin Hyatt revealed following the team's 10-7 victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon, per Kevin Manahan of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com. "At first, when I saw that, I was like, 'He didn’t throw at warmups. What quarterback doesn’t throw at warmups?' But he goes out there and throws beautiful passes, so that just shows me how confident he is in himself and with his team."

DeVito is playing this fall because starter Daniel Jones and primary backup Tyrod Taylor are sidelined with injuries, and the 25-year-old has become arguably the Giants' top positive story from a disappointing season. A native of Cedar Grove, New Jersey, DeVito still lives at home with his parents and is responsible for a touchdown celebration that's become a sensation throughout the NFL community:

DeVito completed 17-of-25 passes for 191 yards and one touchdown in the win over the Patriots that improved the Giants to 4-8 ahead of their bye.

"Yeah, I ask him all the time," Hyatt added about DeVito's pregame habits. "I ask him every day about it. He’s like, 'I don’t have to.' I think it’s one of those things where he’s a game player and that’s what I respect about him most. We know when he goes out there on gameday [he’s ready], so honestly, I don’t question anything about what he does and doesn’t do."

Thus far, DeVito has connected on 66-of-105 total pass attempts (62.9%) for 697 yards with seven touchdowns and three interceptions this season. He's rushed for 83 yards and a score on 21 carries, and he's also taken 28 sacks over five contests.

History suggests DeVito won't be a long-term replacement for Jones, and Giants general manager Joe Schoen hinted on Monday he could spend a high draft pick on a quarterback next spring. For now, Giants fans get to enjoy at least one more victory Monday this season before they wait and see if DeVito comes back down to earth during the Week 14 home game against the Green Bay Packers.

The 5-6 Packers host the 8-3 Kansas City Chiefs this coming Sunday.
