Geno Smith and the Las Vegas Raiders were looking to secure their first win in 10 games on Sunday against the New York Giants. Similarly, the Giants also entered this Week 18 matchup on the heels of nine straight losses. Both teams were 2-13 before Sunday’s kickoff, sharing the worst records in the league.
Smith made his 15th start of the season for Vegas on Sunday. He entered the game with 282-of-420 completed passes (67.1%) for 2,849 yards, 18 touchdowns and a league-worst 15 interceptions. Smith has also rushed 40 times this season for 108 yards.
The two-time Pro Bowl QB, however, was forced to exit the game in the fourth quarter due to an ankle injury.
Smith sustained the injury at around the 12 and a half minute mark of the final frame. After his pass got picked off by Giants defensive back Dane Belton, Smith’s right leg was caught under teammate Cody Lindenberg as they both attempted to tackle Belton.
Smith went down and was slow to get up. The silver lining is that he was able to exit the field under his own power, but the 35-year-old veteran was seen with a noticeable limp as he walked back to the locker room.

Shortly after his departure, the Raiders announced that the veteran quarterback was questionable to return. However, it did not take long for the team to rule him out of the game completely.
“Injury Update: QB Geno Smith (ankle) is OUT,” the Raiders posted on X.

Backup quarterback Kenny Pickett came in to replace Smith after the latter’s untimely exit. Before his departure, Smith had recorded 20-of-28 completed passes for 176 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
The Giants came out on top of Sunday’s contest, 34-10. The Raiders, who dropped to 2-14 after their 10th straight loss, have one game left to play this season. They will take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 18 at home at Allegiant Stadium.
