Raiders bringing in veteran for a visit says everything about their feelings on available star players

Everyone can look at the cornerback room on the Las Vegas Raiders roster and tell that the potential for that group is through the roof. However, until the play actually happens and steps are taken, that's all it's — potential.

They are still extremely young in that room. Think about this -- the guy in the room is Jakorian Bennett, at this point, anyway, and he is going into his third year. The next two best guys, as far as who we think are the next two best, are Decamerion Richardson and Darien Porter, one second-year guy, and one rookie.

Now, they do have a few veterans like Eric Stokes, the former Green Bay Packers CB, and Darnay Holmes, who played for the New York Giants for a while, but that's essentially it as far as veterans go. They could certainly use one more.

And that's why conversations amongst fans and media have started about the possibility of trading for Miami Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey or signing newly released CB Jaire Alexander. Everyone wants a star player, I get it -- I'd want one of those guys too if I were a fan. But the Raiders don't seem to think it's worth it.

Raiders to host visit with Shaquill Griffin

The former Seattle Seahawks cornerback, who also had brief stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, and Minnesota Vikings, is set to meet with the Raiders. And, why would we expect anything less -- this is a Pete Carroll guy.

This makes it obvious that the Raiders know they need more veteran presence in the locker room, but they don't want to bring a star in. With Ramsey and Alexander, two guys who have had issues with their teams in the past, and are not afraid to speak up about how they feel, you never know how that could affect the chemistry.

And, you never know how that could affect the development of a guy like Bennett, who is set to be the CB1 in 2025. They want to play it safe and get a guy who will fight for his right to stay on the team, is good enough to play, but can also be a leader and a veteran.
