Raiders make change with offensive line depth

With the first iteration of the Las Vegas Raiders’ 53-man roster out, it left fans with some questions.

One of the more head-scratching decisions was keeping offensive lineman Thayer Munford on the roster. Munford has never been able to find his footing at the NFL level, and he was one of the Raiders who struggled the most during the preseason. Many assumed Munford would be a victim of a player ascending from the roster bubble, but the cutoff day came and went with him still safe.

On Wednesday, however, that all changed for Munford.

The Raiders have gone towards someone Pete Carroll is more familiar with.

On Wednesday, the Raiders waived Munford and replaced him with offensive lineman Stone Forsythe.

Forsythe, who was cut by the New York Giants in their own roster cutoff, becomes the new swing tackle behind Kolton Miller and DJ Glaze while the Raiders continue to develop third-round rookie Charles Grant.

While Forsythe has not been perfect in his own right, he did play over 400 snaps at right tackle for the Seattle Seahawks last year after injuries decimated them. The familiarity with Carroll was what likely tipped the scales in his favor, and Munford’s own struggles did not make the decision too difficult. With three offensive linemen currently on the practice squad, it would not be a surprise if the swap meant Munford’s time in Las Vegas has come to an end.

Forsythe now gets a new opportunity with a familiar face, and he hopes to get the chance to make at least some good in his new environment.
