Raiders offensive line under fire from three-time champion

Over the past week, the Las Vegas Raiders’ offensive line has found themselves as a major source of criticism.

In fairness, the backlash has not come entirely unwarranted. The Raiders have given up the second-most sacks in the league so far, while also putting up the third-lowest rushing yards. Given the heavy lifting the Raiders put into shoring up both areas this offseason, it is frustrating to see that work be undone due to the team consistently losing their battles in the trenches.

Many have not been shy to point out the struggles, but none have come as more harsh than that of Mark Schlereth.

The Raiders offensive line was put on blast by one of the best players at the position.

During his appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, the two-time Pro Bowler and three-time Super Bowl-winning offensive guard put the Raiders offensive line on blast for their previous performance against the Washington Commanders.

“The concern is the Raiders couldn’t block their way out of a wet paper sack. Like I’ve got a couple of guys on there. Daron Payne for Washington is a really good player, and I think they’ve got a bunch of really good players, but they don’t have anybody other than Daron Payne who’s an absolute war daddy on that line of scrimmage. Their offensive line was awful. It was purely awful in this,” Schlereth said.

Right guard Alex Cappa and right tackle DJ Glaze, in particular, were subjects of Schlereth’s ire.

“The combination of not being unable to block anybody and then Ashton [Jeanty] learning exactly what he is supposed to do, that’s a bad combination right off the start. I thought the right side of their offensive line, with their right tackle and their right guard, was just subpar at best. That’s probably an insult to subpar things, but they were subpar at best,” Schlereth continued.

It was a total dressing down for the entire group, and the offense will continue to struggle so long as the offensive line keeps breaking down.
