The Las Vegas Raiders know who will be under center when they face the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

According to multiple reports, the Commanders have officially ruled quarterback Jayden Daniels out for Week Three, meaning Marcus Mariota will get the start.

Daniels was a limited participant in Friday’s practice, but the Commanders have decided to keep him on the sidelines for now to preserve him for the rest of the season.

It will be the first game that Daniels has missed in his NFL career, still feeling the effects of last week’s loss to the Green Bay Packers where he was sacked four times and hit an additional six.

Mariota, however, still poses a challenge for the Raiders. In two games where Daniels was knocked out with injury last season, Mariota stepped up to fill his place. The former second overall pick won both games for the Commanders, throwing for 366 yards and four touchdowns.

Mariota has started 74 games across his 11 seasons in the NFL. He was also a backup for the Raiders during the 2020 and 2021 seasons, making 11 appearances between both years.

While Daniels being out will certainly make the Commanders offense less dynamic, Mariota will still ensure the Raiders have a fair challenge heading into Sunday’s contest.
