Community involvement is of the utmost importance to the Las Vegas Raiders.

While they want to put a good product on the field, giving back to the community that supports them is even more important.

A few Raiders players visited Nellis Air Force Base this week to spread holiday cheer with Air Force personnel.

Linebacker Robert Spillane, guard Greg Van Roten, tackle Thayer Munford, tackle Dalton Wagner, cornerback Sam Webb, and their families visited the base to help 500 Air Force families pick out holiday trees.

They also decorated Raider-themed ornaments and signed autographs while enjoying hot chocolate and holiday treats. Supporting and honoring the sacrifices members of the military make is vital to the Raiders throughout the season.

“We’re very thankful to be here in honor of Raider Nation giving back to our troops who do so much to take care of us and to keep us safe,” said Spillane.

Some Raiders players, including Van Roten, have personal connections to the military.

“Family is everything,” he said. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without my family. I hope we can impact these families in a small way by bringing them a little bit of cheer. It means a lot to me. I have family that have served, and it’s just a great time of year to give back.”

Winning and losing football games can sometimes pale in comparison to supporting those who make a significant sacrifice for our country, and the Raiders know that.

The Nellis Air Force Base is a Las Vegas base covering more than 14,000 acres. It holds over 14,000 military and civilians, and the total population includes 60,000 military family members and retirees.

As the holiday season is in full swing, the Raiders are giving back to the community and supporting the people who support them on the field every week. The Raiders hope spending time with members of the military and their families can have an impact on their lives.

The Raiders have a critical stretch of games coming up but found time during their busy schedule to spread holiday cheer to people who deserve it most.

The Silver and Black will return home to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to take on the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, December 10, at 4:05 p.m. EST/1:05 p.m. PST.
